Victorian Independent schools welcome Jason Clare’s re-appointment

Monday 12 May 2025

Independent Schools Victoria has welcomed the re-appointment of Jason Clare as the Australian Education Minister, acknowledging his support for the key role of Independent schools in the education of young Australians.

ISV Chief Executive Rachel Holthouse congratulated Mr Clare, saying his re-appointment would ensure continuity in education policy, including the right of parents to choose a school that best meets the needs of their children.

“Independent schools are an essential pillar in the Australian education system, something Mr Clare has recognised,”

— Ms Holthouse

‘We look forward to maintaining a constructive and cooperative relationship with him, in the interests of more than 170,000 students enrolled in Victorian Independent schools.’
Key issues for Independent schools include stable and consistent funding, continued investment through the Choice and Affordability Fund and Capital Grants Program, and cross-sector collaboration in areas like teacher retention and student wellbeing.

Ms Holthouse also welcomed the appointment of Julian Hill as Assistant Minister for International Education.
