Yes, if your school receives funding under the Australian Education Act 2013 (Cth).
You must submit the Census of non-government schools to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (Aus DET).
The Census collects information on staff and students from all non-government establishments which have as their major activity the administration or provision of full time primary, secondary and/or special education. The data represents a ‘snapshot’ of the staffing and student numbers on Census Day.
The Census collects data on:
- School characteristics
- Staff and Indigenous Staff (teaching, non-teaching and boarding staff, if applicable)
- Students (Full Time and Part Time)
- Overseas students
- Students with disabilities
- Indigenous students
- Boarding students
- Distance Education Students
- Non Tuition Boarders
- Multi-campus Schools.
Schools need to complete the Aus DET Census online by the required date (usually in early August).
Independent schools receive funding from the Australian Government under Australian Education Act 2013 (Cth) subject to the conditions which are set out in the Act.
Submission of the Census is a condition under the Act.
