Empower students to take ownership of their learning by teaching them how the brain works.
ISV is exploring metacognition with Year 9 students through the Cognizance research project, an exciting collaboration with neuroscientist and former teacher Dr Jared Cooney-Horvath.
The project aims to teach students the fundamentals of metacognition, the ability to control thought processes, and to give them the tools to take charge of their own learning. Our goal is to teach students how the brain works so they can use this knowledge to impact both study and life.
Cognizance students engage in a series of lessons titled ‘Hacking the Brain’ that look at understanding the importance of stories, the basics of neuroplasticity, how the brain deals with errors and the role of memory.
Through its innovative approach to incorporating metacognition, Cognizance enriches learning for both students and teachers.
