Program Description: 

This full-day workshop will provide primary teachers of all languages with the opportunity to: 

  • view a collection of new film clips showcasing innovative languages programs in Victorian schools 
  • consider opportunities for applying innovations to their own context 
  • plan for quality teaching and learning using a planning template created to support implementation of Australian Curriculum: Languages (this can also be used by schools implementing the Victorian Curriculum or other curriculum frameworks) 
  • explore sample units of work and resources for French, Italian, Indonesian and Chinese.  

Presenter Information – Kylie Farmer 

Kylie Farmer has worked as a Languages Education Consultant since 2006, and in this role has managed and worked on a wide range of projects supporting languages education at a local, state and national level. She facilitates numerous professional learning programs and language teacher networks. Kylie also works with Melbourne Graduate School of Education and coordinates their Bastow Leading Languages Program. Prior to consulting, she was a primary teacher of Japanese and coordinated the bilingual program at Huntingdale Primary School. Kylie brings her classroom experience, her awareness of recent developments in resources, opportunities and effective ways of engaging students to connect and support teachers in providing quality language learning experiences for students.
