VET in Schools
Accountability requirements for the vocational education and training in schools program.
Yes, if a school has the program, VET in Schools, then they need to ensure that the school is following the compliance procedures of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) andor the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).
In some cases, schools may also need to adhere to the compliance requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)
Receipt of funding
Supplementary funding, provided by the Commonwealth Government, is allocated through Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) to Independent schools whose students are involved in a VET program.
These programs could be delivered to students by:
- Purchasing hours. This is where a school engages the services of an RTO to provide a VET qualification and/or units of competency to its students.
- Auspicing the program. This is an arrangement that a school can make with an RTO for the delivery of a VET program within their school. Some schools may be Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and the delivery could occur by using their own scope of registration.
Funding provided to the independent sector is used to support the delivery of VET in schools. Funding is based on confirmed student enrolments, as at the last week in April, using the Victorian Assessment Software System (VASS) data.
Schools that receive this funding need to respond to the five priority areas that the Commonwealth Government has articulated in their Memorandum of Understanding which exists between the Commonwealth Government and Independent Schools Victoria.
Staff delivering VET
Schools need to ensure that staff delivering VET within the school have the mandated qualifications.
The school needs to:
- enter student enrolments on the VASS system by the end of April each funding year
- provide data related to the priority areas, including funding information as required by the Commonwealth Government, and/or Independent Schools Victoria
- participate in evaluation project/s related to the funding
- provide Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) hours as requested by Independent Schools Victoria
- use the funding only for the purposes of the approved projects in the funding calendar
- agree to host visits from Australian Government and/or Independent Schools Victoria representatives.
Schools may be asked to return the funding received.
