Arts as Civic Commons (ArtC)

Amplifying the power of art to spark civic inquiry.

Across the world, people use art to explore and express civic ideas. From politics and climate change, to our role in the community and how treat other people, arts education plays an important role in helping students engage with such issues.

Arts as Civic Commons (ArtC) is the culmination of a three-year research and development collaboration between ISV and Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

It builds on earlier ISV research that explores how civic engagement is taught in schools and how we can enhance participation in civic learning.

ArtC provides a wealth of tools and resources to help teachers and students explore civic life through looking at and making art.

The resources can be used in person or online, and are suitable for use in schools, museums, galleries – anywhere people can experience the power of art to spark civic inquiry.
